Donate by bequest

Download this page as a PDF. | A bequest is a gift of any amount made outright in your will. You may include a charitable bequest when you execute a new will or you can add it to an existing will through a codicil. Bequests to Methodist Home for Children have always been important to our ministry, and we receive them as special blessings that allow us to look to the future with great hope.

We ask that bequests be made to the Methodist Home for Children Foundation, 1041 Washington Street, Raleigh, NC 27605. The MHC Foundation, a tax-exempt organization as described in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, is our steward for all investments that support MHC’s programs and services.

Your bequest can take one of several forms. The most common options for unrestricted bequests are described below—simply adjust the amount or percentage used in the examples. If you prefer to designate your bequest for a specific purpose, just call or e-mail and we will suggest appropriate language and a gift agreement for consideration by you and your attorney.

Bequest of cash:

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Methodist Home for Children Foundation, Raleigh, NC the sum of $10,000, to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Bequest of a percent of the estate:

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Methodist Home for Children Foundation, Raleigh, NC 25% of my residuary estate to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Single residuary bequest | A type of bequest honored after all other bequests have been made, and all debts, expenses and taxes have been paid:

“I give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to the Methodist Home for Children Foundation, Raleigh, NC to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Contingent bequest | A type of bequest that is fulfilled only if certain conditions are met. For instance:

“I give, devise and bequeath all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to my brother, John, if he survives me, and if he does not survive me, then to the Methodist Home for Children Foundation, Raleigh, NC to be used for the general purposes of the Foundation.”

Your bequest language may include the Federal Identification Number (FIN) for each beneficiary. The FIN for the Methodist Home for Children Foundation is 56-2259577.

We urge you to consult with your legal and financial advisors regarding any bequest or gift you are planning.
